Blue

Hi everyone, it’s been a while, but now I’m back. I’ve had a lot of things going on lately, hosting events for ONLY and I have been working a lot.

And let’s talk about work – don’t we all want something a bit dressed when we’re at work? Something that looks good, but still says something about your personality? I think a blazer would do this anytime. And right now, at least in my ONLY store, there are a lot of different blazers right now. My favorite is the one I am wearing in these pictures. In fact, I have been searching a long time for a blazer that’s not black or grey, but one that says “hey, look at me” but still isn’t too much and I must be able to use it every day.

Natural beauty

One of our Belgian prides, model Hannelore Knuts, starred in a video called ‘Natural Beauty’. This is a video made by artistic duo Lernert and Sander. In the video, Hannelore gets a total of 365 layers of make up on! This is an experiment to show how you can change a natural look into a shocking result. You’ll see the make-up dripping off by the end of the video. Not a pleasant face to look at I must say!

Rolled-up for this summer

As predicted and expected the blogging theme at summertime in this digital forum is all about shorts, dresses and colors. In my holiday daze I follow the stream and make this post a “jeans-shorts” one. The choice came to me rather randomly as so many good things appear since I wasn’t in the mood of finding myself a pair, yet still grasped the ONLY jeans on my way to the dressing room (arms full of clothes, of course). They fitted very well and had a comfortable short-length (not too long so that the large leg part still gets a proper tan, not too short to be looking… well, too revealing I guess.)

What I particularly like about this pair is how it’s pretty simply cut, yet slightly rolled up – I am nuts about rolled up pants these days – both for short pants and long pants, for men and women. It adds a certain effortlessness to an outfit and allows you to combine it with something more elegant like a silky white shirt. On top of that, I’d recommend the shirt to be quite loose, either buy some sizes too big or borrow (/steal!) one from your boyfriend or brother. To finish my outfit I spiced the overall look up with a provocative dark lipstick, but I’ll leave that part up to you.

Now – get back out in the sun!

You want this shade on your pants, not on your skin!

Nowadays, in this weather the first choice of pants perhaps won’t be full length pants, especially not denim. But as always we have an exception. Like these ones. I don’t really know any motivation for not wearing them – even on the hottest days. And if you don’t like the pink color, I’ve seen them in both blue, mint and yellow. It’s your choice, but if you didn’t know this, earlier pink was one of my favorite colors. So of course these lovely jeans will keep me warm on cold summer nights. And protect me from the sun during the days.

If anything, the following is important – to protect your skin from the sun. I can tell you, don’t get burned this year, or any other year! It’s not worth it. I myself have fallen asleep in the sun several times, and know how to match these jeans with my skin color. It’s not a funny thing to do. Of course you will look tanned in the summer, but don’t stay to long in the sun. Be careful, the consequences are not always too much fun. And anyway, you do want this shade on your pants, not on your skin!

For those crisp summer nights…..

Indeed it is peculiar to be considering sweaters at summer time, however when spending a day outside the house, not knowing when or where it ends, I always bring some sort of cozy sweater. It is lighter than a jacket and adds the chíc French, yet casual touch to both pants, skirts, shorts and dresses. In this outfit, I have paired the loose beige sweater by ONLY with a cute flowery summer dress (also by ONLY). Additionally, when we get around the colder seasons of the year it serves the warm purpose perfectly together with layers of clothes…

What do you usually do to be “fabulously practical” ? (is there even such a fashion move or is it just some sort of oxymoron?)

Festival fever!

Are you ready for the festival season? We have got some amazing festivals here in the Netherlands like Dancevalley, Mysteryland, Pinkpop. But Lowlands is definitely my favorite festival, it is a three day festival with music, theater, food and markets, totally amazing!

But what are you going to wear at a festival? You want to be comfortable and looking chic at the same time, don’t you?  There are a couple of style rules at festivals. Denim shorts or shorts in general are a big plus combined with a simple tee. Bohemian dresses with flower prints are also really a do. Rubber wellies are stylish and handy when the weather is kind of unpredictable and denim jackets and denim blouses are a must as well.

This is my festival outfit. I am wearing denim shorts, flag printed top and a denim shirt from ONLY and a Pieces bag.

Happy festival season!

Amsterdam city guide

Last week I visisted Amsterdam for the third time, and I must say every time I’m there I love it more and more! Amsterdam is such a vibrant and fashionable city. Maybe it’s a bit to underknown as fashion city.

On this day, what’s your inspiration?

4th of July and we do celebrate the American Independence, and as you can see this day I get my inspiration from the American flag.

To talk about America is not only interesting because of that, but also because of the upcoming autumn and its fashion. Soon you will see some of the news for the AW season in store, and don’t get too surprised if you will see the influences from USA. On one hand, there will be a nice high school girl with boyish style mixed with a nice twist of the retro fashion we’ve had recently. The 70s will stay a bit longer.

And at the other hand we will see inspiration from the Native Americans and their down to earth colors and amazing prints. A lot of mustard yellow you will see. And the already loved feathers will have a real high moment this autumn, not only as decorations but as prints as well.

But this is just a few words of what you will see, let’s get back to the summer a while more. And on this day, what’s your inspiration?

Go Red!

I Am Not Afraid To Admit This. I love red pants. Well, I guess there is nothing frightening or particularly weird about that. Luckily my opinion is confirmed by both Mrs. FashionToast and ONLY. Incidentally, ONLY just launched a beautiful pair of red jeans and I love how they have this slightly used look. Maybe you could cut off a piece to create a more  edgy look, as Rumi did it, though not if you have short legs, since it tends to make an overall shorter impression of the legs. (or wear the length with heels)

There are several ways to style a red pair of pants, all depending on your own style of course. One way is to combine with a simple top or blouse in a mild color like off-white, grey or beige. Then there is the solution to ‘countercolor/print’ with a strong pattern, as Kate Moss does for Vogue UK 2010, combining the red leather pants with a leopard jacket.

Personally, I went with yellow stripes by ONLY combined with vintage gentlemen pants, inspired by the beachy theme of the shoot – despite the fact that those kinds of stripes usually come in the blue and white combo I decided to put a color-block spin on the style with my yellow-white choice.
