Rolled-up for this summer

As predicted and expected the blogging theme at summertime in this digital forum is all about shorts, dresses and colors. In my holiday daze I follow the stream and make this post a “jeans-shorts” one. The choice came to me rather randomly as so many good things appear since I wasn’t in the mood of finding myself a pair, yet still grasped the ONLY jeans on my way to the dressing room (arms full of clothes, of course). They fitted very well and had a comfortable short-length (not too long so that the large leg part still gets a proper tan, not too short to be looking… well, too revealing I guess.)

What I particularly like about this pair is how it’s pretty simply cut, yet slightly rolled up – I am nuts about rolled up pants these days – both for short pants and long pants, for men and women. It adds a certain effortlessness to an outfit and allows you to combine it with something more elegant like a silky white shirt. On top of that, I’d recommend the shirt to be quite loose, either buy some sizes too big or borrow (/steal!) one from your boyfriend or brother. To finish my outfit I spiced the overall look up with a provocative dark lipstick, but I’ll leave that part up to you.

Now – get back out in the sun!

For those crisp summer nights…..

Indeed it is peculiar to be considering sweaters at summer time, however when spending a day outside the house, not knowing when or where it ends, I always bring some sort of cozy sweater. It is lighter than a jacket and adds the chíc French, yet casual touch to both pants, skirts, shorts and dresses. In this outfit, I have paired the loose beige sweater by ONLY with a cute flowery summer dress (also by ONLY). Additionally, when we get around the colder seasons of the year it serves the warm purpose perfectly together with layers of clothes…

What do you usually do to be “fabulously practical” ? (is there even such a fashion move or is it just some sort of oxymoron?)

Go Red!

I Am Not Afraid To Admit This. I love red pants. Well, I guess there is nothing frightening or particularly weird about that. Luckily my opinion is confirmed by both Mrs. FashionToast and ONLY. Incidentally, ONLY just launched a beautiful pair of red jeans and I love how they have this slightly used look. Maybe you could cut off a piece to create a more  edgy look, as Rumi did it, though not if you have short legs, since it tends to make an overall shorter impression of the legs. (or wear the length with heels)

There are several ways to style a red pair of pants, all depending on your own style of course. One way is to combine with a simple top or blouse in a mild color like off-white, grey or beige. Then there is the solution to ‘countercolor/print’ with a strong pattern, as Kate Moss does for Vogue UK 2010, combining the red leather pants with a leopard jacket.

Personally, I went with yellow stripes by ONLY combined with vintage gentlemen pants, inspired by the beachy theme of the shoot – despite the fact that those kinds of stripes usually come in the blue and white combo I decided to put a color-block spin on the style with my yellow-white choice.

What do you think of a red bottom? Yay or nay?

If you ever visit your mother(-in-law)…

I suppose this is the perfect solution for at classic visit at the mother-in-law. This I realized after the shoot. But let’s rewind to the beginning of my jeans story.

In our age of skinny jeans, it cannot be very easy for ‘flaredness’. So in an attempt to play on that, I decided to style a pair of ONLY Jeans I have had hanging in my closet for a while. (sidenote: probably the most comfortable pair of ONLY Jeans I’ve had. Sidenote #2: I have had many pairs of ONLY Jeans.)

So, in my ‘logical’ view, there are two ways of styling these jeans. Either go completely 70′s style with either a turtleneck, a very colorful flower blouse with an enormous collar and don’t forget a pair of platforms. (You could preferably add any wooden accessory, but let’s not make it a costume, hm?)

The other way is to pair it with something as simple as possible, like the chosen light blue (collarless-) blouse in the first pictures or a beige t-shirt as in the last. It will still appear as a 70′s style due to the flared jeans, but the simplicity of the top will, in my opinion, keeps it classy. Here is where it transforms into an outfit that will suit any kind of visit at the mother-in-law. By that, we are at the end of my little flared tale.

That dress

If I visit one and the same shop over and over again, it sometimes happens that I notice an item I like, but still leave it for some reason; it is not really my style, it may be unflattering, it is not “interesting enough” or I already have a similar one in my selection. So I leave the boutique thinking of this garment yet with the feeling I might have made a wrong decision. The dress of this post is exactly the piece in question. I have seen it in my local ONLY shop for quite some time, but always ended up leaving it and now, that I bought it, I am really glad that I followed my style instinct. D’you ever experience the same?

Laugh!

I find humor to be a very important “accessory”, not only in clothes, also in life. (Maybe I’m stating the obvious here, but still it needs to be said.)

How better to express this than through a t-shirt? At least I think ONLY does a good job on this, and that is why I present this adorable giraffe t-shirt to you. The one in the pictures has gone through some slight changes compared to the original, since I removed the sequins (not a big fan of them). I paired it with some metallic dark blue ONLY jeans, super high heels and necklaces that match the animal theme. The photographic work and magic touch is thanks to Agata M. and Mikolaj L. Hi there,

So listen. I have no idea what to write about this outfit… I really cannot depict the style at all. I’d say maybe it’s a French style a lá Charlotte Gainsbourg (not so sure about that though. Maybe it’s just a wishful thought? Maybe you’d like to help?) Suppose the reason for the all black and white theme is because of the focus on color and patterns this year – meaning this being a counter reaction. Or perhaps I’m just being true to my own style and aiming to maintain that… Anyhow I think it’s always a challenge to defend your own choice of clothes, right? (I suppose one reason would be, not wanting to share all the weird considerations I tend to have when creating an outfit.)

The entire outfit is by “ONLY”, except for the belt and shoes. You might recognize the jeans-belt combo from the first post – what can I say to excuse myself from this repetition? I just love this belt with these jeans! We (the photographer – also known as Agata – and I) played a little with a white wall and a black chair. Simple outfit & simple setting. Un-simple explanation. My Summer Necessity

One essential summer item in my wardrobe is the tank top. Why? Cause it is combinable with any kind of accessory or statement garments – the tank top will add the ”laid-back”-element to anything. Plus it is really comfortable. In the case of this outfit I’m wearing the tank top by ONLY underneath an olive green silk dress, which by the way is also usable for the beach; you can just wear it over a fabulous bikini (I tore up the dress in the sides, don’t like it when it’s too ”pretty”). My inspirational source for the shoot and the outfit was the wildness of nature and (maybe obviously?) the talented blogger, Rumi from fashiontoast.

The Transition

Continuing the series of ”old profession” –styles, this time miming the train conductor. Thinking about this job – that requires both patience and a constant travelling back and forth, round and around – connected my mind slightly with gypsies, the ever travelling folk with their casual bohemic style (ok, admitting that these facts are based purely on my dreamy imagination…)

The styling came out like this; highwaisted dark blue jeans, a black chiffon blouse with ruffles, a dark blue blazer with silver buttons, chains of feathers and keys, half braided hair, super high heels  and a black top hat (symbolically, since I didn’t manage to find a real train conductor’s hat… what a pity.)

Puff! One piece of stylish nomadic train conductress.

Vintage at heart

Deep down on the bottom of my fashion soul, I’ll always be a vintage girl. I might explore fields of Nordic minimalism or Parisian classics but eventually find my way back to funky accessories from the ‘70s or search for inspiration in the ‘50s and ‘60s (do I have to say “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”? …If only the time machine was a real thing…)

That is why my choice for this styling was pretty clear when scouting the brown skirt with brown belt by “ONLY”. It truly resembles a 1950s piece, though with the modern twist of having a knee length. So how to combine this? I allowed myself to take an inspirational glimpse at the Louis Vuitton fall 2010 collection (thanks Marc Jacobs!) since it contained various skirts like the one I chose. You could wear it very simple with a tight turtleneck or perhaps more casual with a light blouse or the elegant (more…)
