The perfect denim shorts

I’m really a denim loving girl. Yeah, I know that might be something that’s kind of taken for granted when writing here. But what I want this to lead to is really the fact that even though I really can’t count all of my jeans anymore, I really haven’t found a really flattering pair of denim shorts that looks just the way I want them to. I can tell you I’ve tried a lot of them and have surely bought a few of the ones I found. They are hot for the moment, but it hasn’t been what I’ve been looking for. But a few days ago I tried a pair of my ONLY jeans and realized that they had the perfect fit. To be a pair of shorts.

And you’ve seen earlier that if I want to change some pieces to look the way I like them to, I do. And so I did this time as well. What I was looking for was a pair of tight blue high waist shorts, with studs. Something like the ones on the pic. And now I’m close to that, just need to get the studs on. But I’m close to the thought of my perfect denim shorts, don’t you think?

If you ever visit your mother(-in-law)…

I suppose this is the perfect solution for at classic visit at the mother-in-law. This I realized after the shoot. But let’s rewind to the beginning of my jeans story.

In our age of skinny jeans, it cannot be very easy for ‘flaredness’. So in an attempt to play on that, I decided to style a pair of ONLY Jeans I have had hanging in my closet for a while. (sidenote: probably the most comfortable pair of ONLY Jeans I’ve had. Sidenote #2: I have had many pairs of ONLY Jeans.)

So, in my ‘logical’ view, there are two ways of styling these jeans. Either go completely 70′s style with either a turtleneck, a very colorful flower blouse with an enormous collar and don’t forget a pair of platforms. (You could preferably add any wooden accessory, but let’s not make it a costume, hm?)

The other way is to pair it with something as simple as possible, like the chosen light blue (collarless-) blouse in the first pictures or a beige t-shirt as in the last. It will still appear as a 70′s style due to the flared jeans, but the simplicity of the top will, in my opinion, keeps it classy. Here is where it transforms into an outfit that will suit any kind of visit at the mother-in-law. By that, we are at the end of my little flared tale.

D’you have a good styling-tip for a successful visit at the in-laws?

Jeans shopping

Shopping for jeans doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Here’s a guide I found to be very helpful

to help me in finding the perfect pair of jeans.

1. Choose stores which make you comfortable, not those with unfriendly or unhelpful salespeople who make you want to leave quickly. It may take a while to find the perfect pair of jeans.

2. Select many different styles, even if you think they may not be flattering, and bring them into the dressing room at the same time so that you can compare them.

3. Different cuts have a better fit for different bodies. Sometimes jeans will be a perfect fit in one place and too loose or tight in another. These jeans are not for you; they will not mold themselves to your body, especially if they are too loose. (more…)

In the woods

The theme for this post is circling around the old fashioned profession of a lumberjack. Or what she is wearing to be more exact. You might think it’s slightly crazy to create such combination of clothes but let me tell you why I think it’s kinda fun. It is connected to the fact that I would like to experiment with a variety of classic professions and try to incorporate my own style with the use of “Only” clothes. (this means the following posts will each represent a different kind of profession.)

A lady named Rosalind Elder said this about her experience (from 1942-46) as a hard working “Lumberjill” (the female version of lumberjack): “We worked outdoors in all types of weather; rain, sleet and snow. My quota was sixty trees a day, I ran alongside the horse jumping over stumps and brush. In the summertime it was quite pleasant and we did have beautiful tans.(more…)

Jeans, jeans, jeans

I was once a jeans person, I wore jeans almost every day and night. Then something happened, all my jeans ended up in the back of my closet. The leggings and tights took their place, and all of the lovely dresses that appeared became an obsession.

But right now the jeans I once wore are getting back in the spotlight again, and I can’t get enough of these amazing work trousers. Did you know that they actually were made to be working trousers in the beginning, made to withstand extreme wear? But very soon the rock ’n’ roll culture embraced this garment and made it popular worldwide. And because so many think they look better the more you use them, jeans that looked worn were made. And isn’t it great? (more…)

(Still) Chilled

Alright, so I don’t actually smoke. It’s a kind of ”stage prop” since today’s setting is pretty theatrical. I wanted to make it seem very casual and ”it’s just another night; we’re outside smoking and someone is taking some pictures”. Supporting this scenario is the outfit that consists of ONLY stonewashed  and very skinny Jeans, a simple black t-shirt with giant shoulder pads and a dark brown corduroy western shirt with pearl buttons by ONLY, dark brown boots and a necklace by ManiaMania.  It was a cold night, we listened to Jimi Hendrix pretending to be oh so rock’n’roll. It’s nice how clothes can allow one to slip into a different character for a night… and the next day you wear a white shirt with loose dark jeans, some silver rings, a cruciform necklace, and with messy hair you’ve become Patti Smith (reading her book right now, it’s great.) or maybe you just wear whatever you like for yourself and bingo! It’s you! But have you ever thought about what clothing item marks your character? Don’t know if I’m even able to answer that myself. Although I believe if you think about your own ”fashion development” throughout your life, there must be some different favorites that came along and went again, symbolizing your milestones, no? (and then of course there are the classic items that accompany you at all times). (more…)

It’s Winter!

What a surprise, it’s winter! This is why I consider it appropriate to dedicate the outfit for this post to a styling solution supporting the season – the layering of fabrics.

A little bonus information to the subject, the term used for “layering” is in German called “zwiebeln” (translated: onion’ing) which I find both charming in the audible sense and indeed valid. (more…)

Into my Jeans

I am very pleased and honored to be your entertainment for the next few written lines. You may have read my introduction so I will keep from telling more details about me and let you discover this yourself (by kindly checking out my shared blog: “beinglorious”.. or just stay tuned for upcoming posts..)

Instead I’m jumping right in by explaining my outfit that for this initial “meeting” is put together with simple elements since I’d like you to experience me in clothes that resemble my casual self in the matter of comfort and confidence.

Phew – here it goes: cause first I have to confess the fact that I knew very little about the brand ONLY before; however the “confrontation” made me discover just how comfortable the ONLY jeans are…! (more…)

Denim – never out of fashion!

Denim’s an all time favorite! This winter you’ll find it on both shirts, jeans and waistcoats. Don’t be afraid to use ‘em all together and add a chequered shirt for the right look.
